We are still plugging away despite COVID-19
All this working from home is definitely putting a stress on ISPs around the country. Here at Net253 we have excess bandwidth and although the usage numbers are definitely way up, we have plenty of capacity. This is in stark contrast to my home internet service, provided by one of the largest cable based internet suppliers in the country. They brag about the fastest network, but alas, it is oversubscribed. If a 1000 people buy 1000 mbit service and you feed them with only 2500mbits, well, no one is going to be happy. At our home we are enjoying 1.5mb download/5mbit upload with 20% packet loss on a business class service that normally does 40 mbit download / 5mbit upload with no packet loss.
We will continue to watch our feeds and speeds carefully, our goal is to enable all our customers to be able to work remotely, entertain themselves, and order essentials.
On that note, a friend (who works at Amazon in a capacity to know) mentioned that Amazon is shipping every day like it is Amazon Prime day. Before you click and place that online order, please consider if it is essential. If it isn’t, I suggest you wait a few weeks; we will really be in trouble if our courier network falls apart.
