KPUD price increase

In the KPUD November 8th 2022 commissioners meeting KPUD passed a new annual operating budget which includes an increase in revenue from their Internet Service Providers (Net253,iFiber,Advanced Stream, etc)

The fee is modest per home, but it hits Net253 and iFiber hard. Net253 will pay an additional $3,000 per month to KPUD to continue to provide internet service to your homes.

We will have a price increase, it will phase in over the next year as contract terms roll off. Most likely we will eliminate the “12 month contract” model as it makes the manual paperwork of handling these changes too painful. We don’t have huge margins on our service; the last rate increase from KPUD (January 2020) took us 16 months to implement. We had a large community of 30 homes sign up just before the rate increase last time; we wound up subsidizing folks internet for a year.

Price increases are no fun. I hate them just as much as you. I am a Net253 customer myself. I worry about my neighbor on fixed income who is on 100mb service. They depend on reliable internet service for medical monitoring devices, communication with their family who has spread far, and access to foreign language programming.
