Family Vacation - July 29th thru August 8th
My family is taking our first holiday since the summer before Covid struck (2019). I will be sitting on a beach, reading books on my kindle, playing cribbage, getting sunburnt, pestered by my wife for not putting appropriate sunscreen on, in general being a complete loaf.
Sam will be in the office to handle installations and service calls.
Nathan and Zander are available for internal networking/core support.
Janet will answer billing questions by email (accounting@net253.net)
On Saturday I tested our facilities auto-transfer / 50KW generator systems. Everything is working fine. We have enough propane to run the entire vacation if we had to!
Monday morning (7/25) I stress tested our core networking infrastructure.
I completely cold power cycled the core router and core switches. I tested all the redundant power supplies and redundant UPS system. The networking gear had been up 180 and 400 days respectively. The power cycling was to make sure any weird power glitch wouldn’t expose a latent configuration defect and to eliminate the chance of a configuration issue causing a problem while I am away. Yes, our equipment has had 0 seconds of downtime over the last 6 months, some has had zero seconds for over a year.
I tested failing back to the KPUD network for transit out of Kitsap in case our dedicated NoaNet link to the Westin went down.
There was a 2 minute outage around 4:30AM this morning when I did these tests.
