Did you see that power blip just now? (10:10am on 8/10/2022)

There I was, sitting in my office chair, wearing shorts and keens (hey I am just back from vacation after all)

Hmm, that’s a heck of a thunderstorm. At 10:10am there was a power surge that blew one of our overhead light fixtures. I muttered to myself, “that’s going to leave a mark”. I pulled up my dashboard for monitoring internet health over the county. The flicker was caused by a strike to PSE’s main transmission line that feeds our entire county. It was a hell of a hit, Vashon Island has no power, the whole thing. At one instant, we lost devices from Hansville to Port Orchard. The KPUD infrastructure was not affected as we had over 90% of our customers still online. Within 5 minutes, all the devices we monitor were reconnected and healthy again.

You might consider adding a small battery backup to power the KPUD wall wart and your primary router so that you can ride thru power disturbances. The battery backup provides ride thru, and additional surge protection to help protect your router and the KPUD equipment.
