When a dirt guy says "I just nicked your conduit", don't trust them

We operate a small private fiber optic network to connect about 100 homes and businesses to the KPUD network using GPON. This is the same technology as “Google fiber”. There was a property improvement in which a new fire main was being added as property was being converted from offices to a high school complex. The dirt guys “nicked” our conduit. (their words, not ours)

Below is a picture of the “nick”. The 2 inch conduit was collapsed in multiple locations and completely snapped in half (and filled with dirt) If we hadn’t found this when the trench was fresh, it would have been a day(s) long effort of trying to find this damage down the road.

If you ever have trench work on your property and someone with an excavator says ‘I just nicked it’, don’t stop until the “nicked” conduit is completely exposed and inspected/repaired to original condition!
