Fiber Break affecting South Kitsap 2/18/2023
Update: 2/23/2023 - A 44-year-old Belfair man is accused of cutting Kitsap Public Utility District fiber optic lines in Gorst, which resulted in internet outages to “emergency services, the Navy base, cell phone towers and residences north of Gorst” for more than six hours on Saturday, according to court documents.

This morning at 9:15 AM we experienced a significant break in the KPUD backbone. The location of the break was near a PSE substation. I can’t help but think someone was trying to take the substation offline.
I wonder to myself, where is our society going when anyone, even someone who dabbles in criminal activity, thinks it is OK to cut critical infrastructure.
KPUD has located the fault, as you can see below it is not an accidental break.
